President's Message - May 2020

Hello Fellow Coaches and Friends of ICF Sacramento:

It’s May!  Can you believe it?  We have moved so quickly into Spring – one of my most favorite times of the year by the way – that  it feels as if we’ve skipped something.  The days have gotten longer, warmer, and it feels like celebration is in the air, And It Is!  Happy Cinco de Mayo!  And it doesn’t stop there.

ICF 25Year Picture Membership Renewal
New Digital Badges Launching for ICF Credentialing

Since awarding the first-ever ICF Credentials in 1998, ICF has been committed to acknowledging the professional achievements of coach practitioners and to supporting their success by offering globally recognized, validated credentials.  For individuals seeking the support of a coach during these challenging times, being able to distinguish a skilled, professional coach is critical.  ICF will soon offer all ICF Credential-holders with a new, easier-than-ever way to verify that they meet the global Gold Standard as an ICF Credentialed Coach through digital badges at the Associate Certified Coach, Professional Certified Coach and Master Certified Coach levels.

Extension of the 2020 ICF Membership renewal period
In March, we announced an extension of the 2020 ICF Membership renewal period to help ease some financial stress within our coaching community.  Today, we’re pleased to share that installment payments are now available for coaches who have not yet renewed their ICF Membership.  To be eligible for installment payments, the renewing member must submit a renewal application, select the installment payment option and make their first payment by June 30, 2020.

Communities of Practice (CPs)

CPs provide a virtual venue for coaches with a shared interest in a specific topic to advance their professional development; deepen their subject-matter expertise; and share best practices, emerging trends, tools and tips.  Each CP is steered by volunteer leaders who help facilitate learning and organize the conversations, ideas and trends that emerge from the group.  CPs are designed to promote active participation from their members; sharing and discussion are always encouraged.  ICF continues to expand CP offerings and outputs to better serve ICF Members.  Non-ICF Members are charged a fee to participate in CP programming, further establishing this resource as an ICF Member Benefit.  Learn more about CPs at coachfederation.org/communities-of-practice.

ICF Sacramento celebrates another successful International Coaching Week!

ICF Sacramento celebrated International Coaching Week 2020 on May 7th with a virtual event hosted by UC Davis Graduate School of Management coordinated by UCD GSM Director of Alumni Relations Aysha Dinius.  I led the session with Chapter President Melna Jones, and with the superb support of Director of Membership Todd Eckblad providing Zoom technical support.  We had eight participants and eight volunteer coaches who provided participants with one or two laser coaching sessions, based on their chosen preference.  The evening began with an opening circle with introductions, followed by an introduction to ICF and the Sacramento Chapter, and a presentation on professional coaching.  I started an activity that allowed participants to discover their very own Standards of Integrity, a tool they can use to ground themselves in who they really are, and how they want to demonstrate these qualities in their lives.  Participants reported the laser coaching experience to be insightful, supportive and empowering!  We want to thank the participants and our volunteer coaches for helping us to celebrate International Coaching Week by spreading the word about ICF and professional coaching in our community!  In addition to this event, we also had Chapter Members who provided pro-bono coaching opportunities to the community.  Thank you to everyone who participated in International Coaching Week.  We will be planning a celebration for our volunteers soon, so be on the lookout for details to come.
