President's Message

When it comes to coaching, one of the things I am grateful for is the inspiration it sparks.  When a client attempts something they were previously scared of and grows in confidence, it’s empowering for them.  It’s also empowering for me, as the coach.  Seeing their courage (and most often success!) motivates me to set bigger goals and take greater action in my own life.

Summer is actually my least favorite season.  I guess it's a combination of the hot weather and outdoorsy activities.  I get nervous when it comes to… well, pretty much anything that moves.  However, I pushed the fear aside and tried something new this summer, with the help of our Communications Director, Malea Heim: stand-up paddle boarding.

Malea loves spending time in nature.  She says the blue skies, sunshine, and bodies of water, give her the ability to re-balance, re-center and renew her mind, body, and soul. She pays that forward to her clients by helping them find balance while building self-love and self-confidence. Her kindness and patience came through in my work with her over the years (and while I attempted to stand up on that paddle board, too).

What might be possible if you stepped outside your comfort zone?

What do self-love and self-confidence mean to you?

What leap could you take in the months ahead?

What does your next level look like?

This month, we have a special opportunity to build your own vision board with fellow coaches.  It’s a B.Y.O. (bring-your-own) style event, and we expect with members like you in the room there will be plenty of inspiration to share!  Scroll down for more details, and register early, as space is limited.

Member Spotlight

Hello ICF Sacramento!  I recently interviewed Paul Briley, MBA, CPTD and founder of Off the Comma Coaching based in Sacramento. Click here to watch.

For Paul, coaching is “a pathway to impact the planet and society.” When he’s not coaching, Paul enjoys cooking, traveling, and “moving my body on wheels.”

We love supporting and getting to know our coaching community. To share your story with us, click here. We’d love to hear it!

August 2022 ICF Credentialing Changes

The new ICF Credentialing Exam is here!  To address your questions, the September 28th Lunch & Learn will cover this and other relevant changes. Click here to register.

Please read further for details and contact Coleen Chandler with any questions.

On August 1, 2022 the new ICF Credentialing Exam replaced the Coach Knowledge Assessment (CKA). What does the change mean for you?

  • Any applications submitted after August 2, 2022 will require taking the new exam

  • This applies even if you have already passed the CKA for a prior credential

About the new ICF Credentialing Exam

  • The exam can be taken online or in person at Pearson OnVUE’s test centers

  • The exam is no longer “open book” and will be closely proctored (monitored)

  • The exam is composed of 81 scenario-based questions. Candidates will be asked to answer the best and worst action among the four options offered

  • The new exam reflects the updated ICF core competencies

  • A secure exam environment will be strictly enforced

  • Two forms of ID are required

Please Note:

  • July 27, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. (PDT) was the deadline to submit your application and still take the CKA.

  • On January 31, 2023, the CKA and current evaluation criteria will be fully retired (this applies even if you submitted your application before or on July 27, 2022).

  • Renewals: Those renewing their credential are not required to take the new exam.

Application Review Time
Due to an unprecedented surge of applications, ICF Global may take up to 20 weeks to review Portfolio and ACSTH applications. Please plan ahead and be patient.

Ignite Pro Bono Coaching Update

We are mid-way through our pro bono coaching project with the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, where 30 ICF Sacramento coaches are working with 49 clients in one-on-one coaching engagements.

Data from our mid-point survey shows that 74% of clients had never experienced coaching before and 100% would recommend coaching to others. Additionally, 95% are making progress towards their goals, while 5% needed to drop out due to extenuating circumstances. Here are some of these clients’ comments:

“I'm very grateful to have been assigned an amazing coach and human being.... her wisdom and energy are enriching my life in many ways!”

“I really like my coach. They are responsive and patient with my progress. . . Their support and motivation have been very encouraging.”

“Just wish I could keep this going beyond the 10 sessions!”

Finally, a BIG THANK YOU to the 21 ICF Sacramento coaches who just completed their engagements with our Sacramento State clients in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership!  We will share their end of coaching survey data in the next newsletter.
